Byron Lastrapes

AIA, NCARB

Principal/Director of Education Design

“When a client believes in us. When there is trust and confidence — and we all feel like we’re in this battle together — those types of relationships are a powerful thing.”
Byron Lastrapes, AIA Principal, and Director of Education Design

A lifelong tennis player, a custom birdhouse and furniture designer, and a fifth-generation Louisiana native, Byron received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His creativity was recognized early on when he was awarded a USL Faculty of Architecture. Design Excellence Award. Byron is a registered architect in both Florida and Louisiana.

A Principal at Rhodes+Brito, Byron joined the firm during its second year of operation, playing a key role in the growth and development. Today, Byron serves as Director of Education Design, overseeing projects, directing staff, and ensuring project standards. Fiercely committed to his craft, Byron goes above and beyond to understand the human element of each project. When he was named head architect of Orlando City’s $1.3 million Skate Park, he took a deep dive into learning the skateboarding culture — from the ground up. Research the West Coast (skateboarding’s mecca) skateboard parks in person? Purchase a skateboard? Learn the sport first hand? Yes, yes, and yes. He is actively involved in the community. Byron has served on multiple Citizens Boards for the City of Orlando, including Orlando Municipal Planning Board, Board of Zoning and Adjustment, and Coded Enforcement. In addition, Byron has served on numerous Committees with Orange County Government to develop Design Standards and Permitting Processes.
