Valencia’s College MCAT
Orlando, Florida
Project Overview
Rhodes+Brito completed the design and construction phase services for Valencia’s College MCAT (Midtown Center for Accelerated Training) program in Northwest Orlando. This $2,000,000, 26,000 GSFT project involved remodeling and renovating an existing warehouse building into three classrooms and teaching laboratories. The programs for this new training center involved Carpentry, Apartment Maintenance, Distribution Operations Technician (DOT), Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Forklift training, and a Welding Laboratory. The welding lab included space for 14 students. Equipment for this training area included 15 welding booths, burn tables, lockable storage areas, Mobiflex fume extractors, electrical/airdrops, and a rod oven.
Rhodes+Brito hosted design charettes with the Campus Architect and all faculty to discuss their academic and program requirements. Safety was crucial in the design of this facility, including the welding lab. The design team carefully considered proper ventilation, safe equipment handling, and fire protection during the design.
