Local 6 WKMG Television Studios Office Remodel
Orlando, Florida
Project Overview
Rhodes+Brito was contracted to renovate two floors of an existing local TelevisionStudio. The design intent of this model was to attract and retain talent as well as promote communication and collaboration. The studio’s leadership desired a “fresh” appearance with a technological edge in the increasingly competitive journalism environment. The design concept was to provide a work environment that promotes creativity and collaboration by opening the existing work space to allow natural light, exterior views, energetic forms, colors, materials, and an interactive environmentThe Design Team also restored the visual image of the workplace to strengthen branding and to create an appropriate environment for effective broadcasting. The first floor renovation included an open concept to increase visual connections to the AssignmentDesk, monitors, and news room managers. The Assignment Deskwas designed to be an official location for “live in the new room”clips with producers and engineers positioned adjacently. The GreenRoom, Dressing Area, and MainConference Room are visually apparent due to the proximity to the lobby entrance.
The Second floor focused on tailoring an environment for sales and marketing staff. The open concept created areas to allow for stronger intercommunication and information sharing among the studio team. Media walls, interactive writing surfaces, andediting studios were incorporated to promote collective activity. All areas were designed to be used for interviewing clips, commercial previews, and creative collaboration to include formal conference rooms, media conference rooms, and a large multipurpose/ training area. The existing building construction is aType II-B Construction.
